The Event Planner Luncheon — How It Went

On Tuesday, The Taproom filled with the one group of people who notice everything about a venue — where the outlets are, how the light falls at noon, whether the loading path actually works. Around fifty event planners from across Greater Cincinnati joined us for lunch, a full building tour, and a straight conversation about what it’s like to bring a client event here.

If you plan events for a living, you were the guest of honor. Here’s how it went.

Lunch First, Pitch Never

The format was simple: lunch in The Taproom, prepared by Chef Chad, our onsite caterer, in the Culinary Lab downstairs — the same kitchen outside caterers can stage from during events. Tables were mixed so planners sat with the Revelance team and with each other. No slideshow, no podium. The questions that came up over lunch — about vendor policies, load-in, A/V, timelines — got answered by the people who actually run the building, including partner and event coordinator Michelle Powell.

The honest subtext of the whole afternoon: this building was designed around the problems planners deal with everywhere else. No mandatory catering — bring the caterer your client wants. Bartender included. A/V included in the room rate, not itemized into a surprise. Everything quoted upfront.

The Tour: Every Space, Every Question

After lunch, the group walked the whole building — the Revel Room with its 25-foot ceilings and 12×10 ft video wall, the boardrooms, the C-Suite Lounge and its wall of bourbon lockers, Emergency 9 with the golf simulator, and the Culinary Lab, where lunch had come together a few hours earlier.

Planners don’t tour like regular visitors. They open doors, ask about rigging points, pace off the dance floor. That’s exactly the tour we wanted to give — the building holds up to that kind of looking, and the layouts, capacities, and included equipment are easier to sell to a client once you’ve stood in the rooms.

What Attendees Took Home

But the moment worth telling is simpler than that. The luncheon had a prescribed end time, and a good share of the room ignored it.
